Transporteur qui livre un petit paquet à son destinataire

The current pandemic crisis is disrupting the activities of carriers who must comply with the regulations and restrictions related to COVID-19. Our partners continue to ship and deliver to many countries in Europe and internationally. They are mobilized to deliver your packages on time and limit delays as much as possible at all stages of the delivery. However, delays can occur because the health situation we are experiencing is very complex and constantly changing.

Our partner carriers cannot therefore guarantee that delivery times will be met, regardless of the transport service chosen by the sender. In this context, no claim for compensation for failure to meet delivery deadlines will be considered.

For domestic and international single package shipments, each carrier applies their own standards to determine the weight and size limit for your shipments. They apply to most destinations, except for local restrictions which may be imposed in some countries.

The pricing of a shipment does not only depend on its actual weight but also on its density.

Density or dimensional weight corresponds to the volume occupied by a package in relation to its actual weight. Volumetric weight is  calculated by multiplying the 3 dimensions in centimeters and dividing it by 5000.

Volumetric weight = (L x W x H) / 5000

Compare the weight of the package and its density. The higher of the two will be the one used for the calculation of the shipping rate. This is referred to as billable weight.

If packages exceed the size and weight limit, they are subject to a surcharge for exceeding the maximum limits.

To find out a shipping rate, all you need to do is use our comparison tool located at the top of the page. Fill in all the information: city of dispatch, city or country of destination, dimensions, and weight of the package. Click on "compare". You can immediately access your online quote and choose the service that best meets your needs. You are free to apply the criteria of your choice: price, partner carrier, delivery time, etc.

After placing an order, you print the packing slip with its tracking number. Once the carrier has taken charge of your package, you can use your tracking number to follow, in real time, the various stages of routing until its delivery.

In order for your package to be delivered without damage or insurance claims, it is necessary to take the proper steps and take the greatest care in its packaging.

During transport, a package undergoes a lot of handling and disruption where many incidents can occur during transit due to inadequate packaging. By protecting your package as much as possible, you limit this type of inconvenience as much as possible.

Objects can have extremely varied shapes and sizes (document, furniture, computer equipment, pointed objects, etc.). The packaging rules also depend on the type of goods you want to send as well as the dunnage material to be used: foam, pallet, angle profile, etc. Here we give you our tips to protect and secure your shipments in standard cardboard boxes.

The size of the carton should be close to the size of object that is being shipped.

Conseils d'emballage pour expédier un colis

The packaging should absorb shocks and the objects should not move during transport. Floating objects are more prone to deterioration than properly packaged objects. This is the reason they must be immobilized using cushioning material (bubble wrap, newspaper, polystyrene chips, etc.). If you are shipping several items in one package, protect each of them individually on all sides, distribute them well in the box and wedge each piece to leave no empty space between them.

Choosing the right box ensures successful packaging. It depends on the weight and fragility of the package. Shipping boxes come in different thicknesses, known as flutes.

Single cardboard

Carton simple cannelure pour emballer un colis The single corrugated cardboard consists of two sheets of corrugated cardboard and supports up to 30 kg. This is suitable for light weight and non-fragile object or goods.

Double cardboard

Carton double cannelure pour emballer un colis The double corrugated cardboard is reinforced with two sheets of corrugated cardboard and supports up to 70 kg. This is recommended for heavy or fragile objects.

Triple cardboard

Carton triple cannelure pour emballer un colis The triple corrugated cardboard reinforced with three sheets of corrugated cardboard and supports up to 100 kg. This is ideal for shipping valuable goods or heavy items.

Banish strings, handles and ropes as way of closure and opt for a smooth and homogeneous packaging.

How to choose the protective and wedge packaging for your package?

There are several wedging and protection solutions. The choice of the most suitable packaging depends on several factors that are specific to the weight of the items shipped, the degree of fragility of the package’s contents, the outer packaging, and the distance traveled or even the storage period.

Our advice for shipping a fragile package

To properly pack a fragile item and to avoid breakage, it is necessary to strengthen the protection of the object. Choose bubble wrap or newspaper to wrap the item and line the entire inside of the cardboard box before placing the item in it. Secure it with kraft paper, if it’s a heavy object, or with air cushions, if it’s a light object. Other materials are also suitable such as foam, polystyrene, or paper. The weight of the package determines the most suitable material.

Warning: a fragile object, once protected and secured, can easily double in size.

Our partner carriers offer you a full range of fast and reliable shipping services for all your deliveries, whether it is a document, package, good, or pallet, in the mainland and overseas France, Europe, and internationally. However, for your Sendcolis price comparison tool to present you with offers that meet your needs, you must search by being very specific about the weight of your package. Any approximation can invalidate the compared offers.

If the weight of the shipment is underestimated, you are responsible for the overcharge which covers the price difference between the declared weight and the actual weight of the package. The carrier will double-check the weight of each package before taking on board, especially in the case of air travel.
In the event of an over-evaluation, you lose the benefit of the negotiated rates of our various offers which should allow you to minimize the shipping costs.

Before estimating to find out how much postage will cost you, weigh your package correctly. You can easily weigh a package at your home or workplace. There are several solutions available to you for this.

The kitchen scale. If your package is light (less than 5 kg), you can simply and quickly weigh your package with this scale.
The bathroom scale. You must weigh yourself without any additional weight, then holding your package, and calculate the difference between the two weights. It will correspond to the weight of your package.
The luggage hook. This tool is designed to measure the weight of your luggage and is known to most frequent travelers who want to avoid unpleasant surprises at the airport. Designed to weigh any suitcase or travel bag large or small, these luggage scales are capable, depending on the model, of weighing up to 50 kg.
The package scale. Mainly used for professional weighing, it offers irreproachable measurement precision.

The dimensions of a box determine the cost of shipping your package. This concerns the external dimensions of your transport packaging and not the internal dimensions. Be vigilant to avoid any re- invoicing by the carrier. You must know the length, height, and width of a package to accurately estimate the shipping rate depending on the chosen carrier. To do this, all you need to do is bring a tape measure and follow a few simple rules.

Calculate the total dimension of a package

Length (L) is the measure of the longest side of the package, end to end, and the total length.
Width (W) corresponds to the shortest side.
Height (H) refers to the intermediate surface

Remember to round the measurements to the nearest centimeter.
If your object has a cylindrical shape, its diameter is equal to the height and width.
If you are making an irregular shaped package, measure the widest points.

By following a few simple rules, you optimize the shipping of your packages and your shipments will reach their recipients in the best conditions.

1 - A unique, perfectly legible transport label attached flat

Check the print quality of your label and check the readability of the information on it, including the bar code. Stick the label on the top of the package and on the largest surface to avoid the opening and check its adhesion.

2 - An airtight box

To prevent the package from opening, the box must be securely closed with packing tape affixed to all openings. Not all adhesive tapes have the same properties. Depending on the package being sent, check its compatibility with the surface of the cardboard, its resistance to temperature variations, humidity, abrasion, bursting, or even if it is suitable for heavy loads or the mode of transportation. The wider the adhesive, the more force it exerts on the cardboard. Also, use a template that is at least 2 inches wide. There are different ways to close and seal the cardboard box: L-shaped closure, U-shaped closure, L and U combination closure and H-closure. The latter is the most secure method and allows everything to be transported. It consists in drawing the letter H by applying the adhesive tape evenly on the flaps and on the edges of the cardboard box as well as on the top and bottom.

3 - Respect for regulated goods

A successful delivery also means shipping objects that comply with regulations. It is your responsibility to verify that the contents of your package do not appear on the list of prohibited or regulated goods. This concerns both the international air transport regulations of the International Air Transport Association - IATA, the European agreement relating to the international transport of dangerous goods by road - ADR and the GTCS of partner carriers. By shipping prohibited goods,, you expose your package to serious inconvenience without the possibility of claim or compensation (goods will be blocked or destroyed by the carrier). In addition, you expose yourself to criminal prosecution if your goods cause material damage or bodily injury during transport.

4 - Customs duties

Any shipment of packages outside the European Union is likely to be subject to taxes and customs duties. They are the responsibility of the recipient who must pay them in order to dispose of the goods. The import-export legislation is specific to each country, but you must, in all cases, indicate the goods you are sending and specifying their value on customs documents that will be attached to packages sent outside the EU.

5 - Insure your goods

The shipping solutions of our partner carriers are available with additional insurance. This precaution can be very relevant if we consider all the incidents that can occur during a delivery
